  • There was an assassination attempt on him in Miami, Florida in February 1933.
  • Immediately after taking office he declared a "bank holiday" so banks could regroup and to slow down "runs" on the banks as well as give time for the Treasury Department to assess what needed to be done to heal the economy.
  • He appointed Francis Perkins to a cabinet position (First woman cabinet member). FDR was known for breaking with tradition.
  • Instilled confidence with the public that he had things under control. Used the "fireside chats" as a way to connect with the American people.
  • Broke the 2 term precedent set by George Washington. Was elected in 1932, 1936, 1940 and 1944.
  • "The New Deal" was his plan for dealing with the Depression. "Alphabet Soup" programs.
  • Federal government did more for the poor/jobless then ever before. Was a positive thing for some, negative for others.
  • Got into hot water for attempting to "pack the court" when the Supreme Court ruled some of the New Deal legilation as unconstitutional.
  • Died April 12,1945.
